Analyzing Transatlantic Relationships from a Historical Standpoint

Imagine a transnational community, where trade, borders, religious and socio-political divide no longer direct – and undermine- global stability. The evolution of our society, one not constrained by the artificial territoriality of the nation-state, is necessary to render the refugee crisis, terrorism, and environmental collapse to mere footnotes in the history of humanity. The world […]

Online, on the Go, on Top

The backbone of the transatlantic relationship is business and trade, therefore to improve communication and engage new players, the goal must be expanding the trade relationship between the United States, Germany and the rest of Europe. Let’s Force Africa to Grow

Why a joint German-American investment fund for Africa would solve several global challenges and would be a strong impulse for the German-American partnership In April 1948, three years after WWII, the US Congress adopted a law that changed the world significantly: the European Recovery Plan (ERP). A New Way Forward for Transatlantic Free Trade

When negotiations for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership began the case for a free trade deal between the EU and the USA appeared to be clear cut. The proposed free trade agreement would have consolidated over 40% of Global GDP into a single trade block. Thereby, not only ensuring an additional economic growth of […]

Don’t Blame Trump – German-American Relations Need a ‘Reset’

Not since the 2003 American-led invasion of Iraq have transatlantic relations been as strained as they are today. While some may look to blame Donald Trump’s “America first” policy as the primary cause of renewed tensions, we should not forget that there were problems under his predecessor, Barack Obama, too. The hacking of German Chancellor […]

Reclaim the Transatlantic Legacy: Security, Economy and Values

Today’s transatlantic partnership often is reduced to security issues, institutionalized in NATO and bilateral cooperation. About

Atlantic Expedition is a fellowship program aiming to empower a younger and more diverse generation of leaders in transatlantic relations.

The Atlantic Expedition is currently in its second round. After fellows of the first Expedition developed policy recommendations and created the Atlantic Memo “Transatlantic Relations in a New Era: The Next Generation Approach”, participants of the second Expedition joined forces to develop new strategies for communicating transatlantic relations to a diverse audience and consequently making the transatlantic relationship a more inclusive endeavor.

From 9-14 October, fellows of the second Atlantic Expedition traveled to Chicago and Houston to present and discuss their ideas and proposals with representatives from politics, media, business and civil society. They published their recommendations in a second Atlantic Memo titeled “Atlantic Expedition II: Towards a More Inclusive Transatlantic Partnership” .

To stay up-to date, virtually join the expedition and to add your voice to the discussion, please find us on facebook and twitter.
