Developing Cross-Sectoral Personal Ties

In order to create a brace for the liberal world order, stopgap for democracy, and a dam to stop the swell of left and right wing extremism and populism, transatlantic partnerships must focus on creating ties between the civil societies of the United States and Germany. While it is important to modernize the relationship and […]

U.S. – Germany Relations: The Case for Diversity

The partnership between Germany and the U.S. is based on common security and economic interests but also relies on the mutual agreement on democratic and liberal values. Talking with Each Other Instead of Talking about Each Other

During the first half of 2017, it became blatantly clear that the US and most European countries seem to drift in different directions. The great divide is visible to even the most inattentive observer. But most experts aren’t surprised. The tectonic shift began earlier. If we take a close look at the eight years before, […]

A Grassroots Movement for the Transatlantic Partnership

The transatlantic partnership is currently in a state of uncertainty. Not only the transition from President Obama to President Trump but the populist eruption in many European countries likewise reflects a conservative wave moving across U.S. and European politics. The societal divide phenomenon on both sides of the Atlantic challenges the transatlantic relationship more than […]

Small Steps Go a Long Way: Consolidating Information to Engage the Public

As the Western world is buffeted by a rising tide of populism, the traditional transatlantic relationship between the United States and Germany is being called into question. As the last […]

In Search of Legitimacy – A New Story of the Transatlantic Cooperation

If the narrative of the transatlantic community were a play, this would surely be the moment of final suspense. We just don’t quite know yet whether it is going to be a tragedy or a comedy. Both the domestic and foreign politics of the United States have received an unusual amount of attention in the […]

About

Atlantic Expedition is a fellowship program aiming to empower a younger and more diverse generation of leaders in transatlantic relations.

The Atlantic Expedition is currently in its second round. After fellows of the first Expedition developed policy recommendations and created the Atlantic Memo “Transatlantic Relations in a New Era: The Next Generation Approach”, participants of the second Expedition joined forces to develop new strategies for communicating transatlantic relations to a diverse audience and consequently making the transatlantic relationship a more inclusive endeavor.

From 9-14 October, fellows of the second Atlantic Expedition traveled to Chicago and Houston to present and discuss their ideas and proposals with representatives from politics, media, business and civil society. They published their recommendations in a second Atlantic Memo titeled “Atlantic Expedition II: Towards a More Inclusive Transatlantic Partnership” .

To stay up-to date, virtually join the expedition and to add your voice to the discussion, please find us on facebook and twitter.
