How Pulling out of COP21 Could Be a Huge Favor to Climate Engagement

Now More Than Ever People unite for a cause. In 2004 when a tsunami hit southeast Asia, people came together, donating unprecedented amounts of money to support first aid and humanitarian work. When terrorists attacked the office of Charlie Hebdo, murdering several journalists, people across the world came together to demonstrate solidarity. Meeting the 2-degree […]

ViralPolitics: Harnessing Social Media to Engage the Next Generation

Young people represent an important stakeholder group in the Transatlantic Relationship. The issues relevant to young people (aged 18-29) tend to be increasingly global and diverse, ranging from online privacy to climate change. Addressing these challenges requires greater cooperation between institutions on both sides of the Atlantic. Democracies run from the bottom up. They require […]

How to Make Use of the Trumpification of the Transatlantic Relations

Now more than ever, it has become evident that the transatlantic relations must not be taken for granted. Since the new U.S. president has taken office, unpredictability and unsteadiness has been the new policy strategy of the United States. At the same time, the European countries are still in crisis mode and are more concerned […]

Using Technology and Leadership to Propel German-American Relations into the Future

As the mid-point of 2017 approaches, shifts in the international landscape illuminate the importance of globalization and interdependency. It is no secret: For better or worse, our world is becoming more connected. As such, it is essential for two international powerhouses, the United States and Germany, to strengthen their transatlantic relationship. Both nations shoulder the […]

Globalism and Multiculturalism: Why Cooperation Lost its Appeal

Writing this article is an anxious exercise, as the relationship between the United States and Europe appears precariously situated today, and each day seems to strain that relationship further. The world that called this partnership into existence after WWII is not the same that we find ourselves in today. Many in the West, from the […]

Virtually Crossing the Pond

“You are who you are where you were when” First coined by sociologist Morris Massey in the 1970s, this tongue-twister depicts the sentiment that values of our past directly motivate how we behave. A boy who grew up during the Depression to a widowed mother found himself working the ranches of Nebraska at fifteen year […]

Open Spaces for Communication: Reducing Reservations

Germany and the United States have shown ambitions to a strong political and economical relationship since the end of the Second World War. These ambitions were reinterpreted and gained new importance with the reunion of Germany and the end of the Cold War. Government Consultations & Civil Society Dialogue: Creating Synergies

A way to rebuild the US-German relations The US-German relations go through a hard period nowadays. Since the NSA spy scandal in 2013, the discord between the German and US government is at a low point. However, the spy scandal was not that challenging neither for the US government nor for the German government. Both […]

About

Atlantic Expedition is a fellowship program aiming to empower a younger and more diverse generation of leaders in transatlantic relations.

The Atlantic Expedition is currently in its second round. After fellows of the first Expedition developed policy recommendations and created the Atlantic Memo “Transatlantic Relations in a New Era: The Next Generation Approach”, participants of the second Expedition joined forces to develop new strategies for communicating transatlantic relations to a diverse audience and consequently making the transatlantic relationship a more inclusive endeavor.

From 9-14 October, fellows of the second Atlantic Expedition traveled to Chicago and Houston to present and discuss their ideas and proposals with representatives from politics, media, business and civil society. They published their recommendations in a second Atlantic Memo titeled “Atlantic Expedition II: Towards a More Inclusive Transatlantic Partnership” .

To stay up-to date, virtually join the expedition and to add your voice to the discussion, please find us on facebook and twitter.
